What We Do

Academic Tutoring 

We offer academic support in all subjects, as well as for essay writing and research projects. Our founding partners have been tutoring middle and high school students for decades, and we contract with a core group of trusted tutors to aid students with any topics that aren't in our wheelhouse.

Executive Functioning Coaching

Collaboration is the cornerstone of our approach to executive functioning. Tutors offer students a variety of tools to improve their time and task management, personal organization, and study skills. Then, they work together to combine the most effective strategies into a personalized system. We find that centering students’ experiences and preferences invests them in the process, leading to deep, lasting changes in their habits. 

Test Prep Tutoring 

We also have extensive experience with test prep tutoring for the SAT and ACT, as well as AP exams, the SSAT, and other high school admissions exams. We design bespoke test prep programs tailored to each student’s strengths, challenges, and goals. We recognize that test-taking is physically and emotionally taxing, so we address test anxiety, time management, and sleep hygiene in addition to content and strategy.

College Essay Writing

In addition to standardized test prep, we support students through the college admissions process by helping them conceive, draft, and edit essays. The college essay is a unique expository and autobiographical writing task: it asks students to narrate formative experiences and promote themselves to their target schools while staying within the confines of a pre-scripted prompt. We work dialectically with students to draw out character defining experiences and carefully edit alongside them to refine their prose. Most distinctively, we recognize how fraught the college essay writing process can be, and we focus on guiding students through it with loving kindness. 

College Bridge Services

Although we’re committed to working with middle and high school students, our services don’t end at graduation. We continue to provide academic, executive functioning, and social support to our students--both in person and online--as they transition to college, university, or vocational training. Our founding partners are particularly experienced with supporting neurodivergent students this way, as well as with post-secondary instruction. With this know-how, we extend our relationships with students into their college years, providing expert, familiar guidance at an exciting and trying time of life.

We make ourselves available to business and community partners for consultation on curricular, pedagogical, and operational matters.

We serve families on Chicago's North Shore and North Side in person, and families across the US virtually.

Please note that there is a two-hour minimum for in-person sessions, and a one-hour minimum for online sessions.
